Disturbia Screening

by C_Benham @ 01/09/2007 - 14:10:27

I got to see a preview screening of Disturbia the other day and thought I'd give some feedback.

I went on my own (as I usually do) and the screen wasn't actually as packed as I expected it to be. There weren't an ads (which was good) or trailers (not so good), just the 'turn off your mobile' thing. I have o say that I didn't really know anything about the movie. I knew it was supposed to be like Rear Window with an ASBO, whih it pretty much was but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have never seen a thriller/horror at the cinema and was a fun experience! I shrunk in my seat a lot and swore under my breath a couple of times. I even jumped which is very unlike me. The amosphere in the whole cinema was great.

The actors were all really good, I think Shia LaBeouff is a very talented actor and this is a great example. His friend is very good in it too and David Morse was incredibly creepy. Shame really cos I always liked that guy! The only thing that did annoy me was the character of Ashley. I just felt that she was a bit brash at times and I found it hard to care about her. The story was good, you are thrown into the narrative straight away with a jaw-dropping opening sequence and it really builds on the tension throughout. I thought the soundtrack was good too. I do feel that the ending could have been done a bit better but it wasn't an anti-climax I don't think.

Overall, it was an effective film and I would recommend it to people who enjoy suspense and scares. Definitely a popcorn movie to watch with some friends. ****

Return of the Blog!

by C_Benham @ 18/08/2007 - 09:47:43

Hey, it may be 10 months since my last blog but at least I came back!

I left Uni not long after I started, it just wasn't my thing. I now have a job with Zurich Insurance which has nothing to do with films or writing but I absolutely love it! The people I work with are crazy and it's just fun. Unlike Uni.

But, as usual, let's discuss movies! My parents were away last week so I had the house to myself. Being as truly lazy as I am, I watched 28 movies! Of those 28, the best were: Die Hard (always entertaining), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (great up-lifting movie), Secretary (a bizarre yet lovely story of romance), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (very witty and well acted), Resident Evil (surprising good) and The Rock (a film I have watched way too many times and always enjoy!).

The worst of the lot were: Resident Evil: Apocalypse (just don't bother), Karate Kid III (couldn't wait for it to end) and Predator (I feel I should like it but just never have).

Cinema-wise I saw Transformers which I really enjoyed. It has absolutely no plot really but the effects are just amazing. The live action cast are good too. Michael Bay is very good at action, it's when he tries sentimentality that he fails. I'm not a fan of the guy but this is one of his best. Still nowhere near as good as The Rock though :) I also saw Hairspray with a friend because I was intrigued by it. I have never seen the original, didn't know anything about and I absolutely loved it! It was an excellent feel good film, the songs were catchy as hell, the performances were great and it is totally rewatchable. John Travolta was slightly scary in it, it was hard to see him as the character rather than John Travolta in a dress. And as much as it pains me to say it...I completely fell for Zac Efron as Link Larkin :'( I now have an urge to see High School Musical which goes against everything I stand for! Ah well, maybe it's not as bad as I always imagined it to be.

Well, that's me out for another few months ;) and remember "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." - Ferris Bueller

Damn Final Fantasy!

by C_Benham @ 23/11/2006 - 21:49:21

Most of my day has been pre-occupied with Final Fantasy VII, yes that game that is nearly 10 years old and that I have had for that long. It came free with my original PS and I never understood it. Ever. It took me months and months to get onto the bloody map!

Now that I have my PS2 at Uni with me I thought I'd give it another go ater all this time. I've been quite obsessed with the Kingdom Hearts games of late which have similar qualities so I thought it might make more sense this time round. I was actually right. Now I know how to use potions and materia so I am getting ahead. But I still can't kill things and it's driving me nuts! I still haven't made it as far as I did before but I think I'm close. If memory serves I'm about to launch into a VERY long flashback (it was so long, I remember eating my dinner while it was going on!).

Before I knew it I had spent 6 hours playing the damn thing! I have a feeling I'm gonna be having annoying dreams tonight! Speaking of dreams...last night I dreamt I won £600,000,000 on the lottery! It was crazy. Then Jonathan Ross came to see me for a TV programme that seemed to be on a train station and I went through a door and ended up having a meal with Sam Raimi (who was a very nice guy!) I would love for someone to analyse my dreams. They'd probably say I watch too many films...and they'd be right. :D

Anyway, I'm gonna listen to some music to put myself in another mindframe. Wait...a quote. Uh, 'We're on an express elevator to hell, goin down!' - Aliens (best. movie. ever.)

Desperately Seeking Bryan!

by C_Benham @ 22/11/2006 - 19:40:15

Yes, that's Bryan with a Y. That's all I ever knew him as in this sad tale of romance...but not really. It's just something that's been niggling in the back of my mind for over 2 years now!

I went to Florida on holiday July 2004 and we went to Discovery Cove (lovely place! If you get the chance, go there) for my mum's birthday. My mum and I did the dolphin swim and the photographer and videographer were both called Brian but one with an I and one with a Y. The one with the Y was lovely and really sweet. Now I don't believe for one second in 'love at first sight' but I honestly haven't been able to get this guy out of my head since then. Never said a word to him! And I don't think he ever said a word to me so I don't know why he has stuck with me.

To make things even weirder...while I was there I heard Kokomo (by the Beach Boys) which is a song I love and I found out it was from the movie Cocktail. So, I sat down to watch it about a year later (don't watch it, it sucks!) and what do you know, the main characters name is Brian. Even creepier is the fact that the actor that plays his friend is Bryan, yes, BrYan with a Y!!! Coincidence, I think so! But I did think it was kinda spooky.

So my question to you is...Do you know a BrYan who worked at Discovery Cove in Florida in 2004? Am I really crazy? Why does he still pop into my mind 2 years on? And why isn't the song Kokomo more appreciated by people?

Hooray! Number 2!

by C_Benham @ 22/11/2006 - 19:20:38

So here we are! Blog number 2. Feels like quite an achievement. But what to say?

Last nite I had a dream about Sean Penn this time, not as exciting as Matthew McConaughey but still pretty cool. I can't remember details but I think he was over for a visit. I really do dream in celluloid! I love my dreams.

Well, I decided to watch The Piano. I really didn't want to cos it's not my kind of film but thought I should as it was set for the course. Hardly anyone turned up! I actually thought it was really good and the 2 hours went by really quickly. The perormances were good and I like Harvey Keitel anyway. But Sam Neill!! Mr Dinousaur Man! He was kinda creepy, I may never watch Jurassic Park in the same way again!

I was supposed to be meeting up with some people from my class to talk about our project. We have to pitch a film but we've just been told that our group is too big and we have to split and come up with a different idea! I have several ideas but am too scared to share them. 'What if they didn't like them, what if they said I wasn't very good. I don't think I could take that kind of rejection' (See, told youI'd have a quote a blog! - Back to the Future) At the moment it's about an Anne Summers party...not really my genre which is why I dodn't mind changing it but I think we'll do the same story in a different way.

I just cooked pork! Yay!! Never done it before, hope I don't have food poisoning now. 8|

Anyway, these blogs have no theme do they? Just my boring life. Maybe I should think of something more interesting to say...Maybe tomorrow I'll put up my pitch for MY idea. See what you guys think.

Be Gentle!

by C_Benham @ 21/11/2006 - 20:35:21

So, this is my first real blog. I have tried to do this before and say 'Yeah, I'm gonna blog as much as possible!' and that is my one and only blog! Hey, at least I'm optomistic. Let's see how this one goes shall we. Most will probably be about films as they are my life! Nothing much really happens in my life.

What have I done today? Nothing really (see, I warned you!). I had a really cool dream though, it had Matthew McConaughey in it...that's all I remember but that made it a really good dream. He was living with me here in Winchester for some reason but he was the same age as me. It was crazy.

I wanna watch a film but have no idea which one! Thats what sucks about Uni, I couldnt bring all my DVD's. I have about 200 but only about 30 here! Not to mention all my parents ones (which are actually much better than mine!) Gotta watch The Piano tomorrow. Hope its not too boring. I think I'm more cultured than I give myself credit for, my favourite films being things like Aliens, Clerks and Star Wars. Not to cultured there.

Listening to the LOVE soundtrack at the moment. If you're a Beatles fan, get it! I really love the music and the show was fantastic. If you have any chance of seeing it in Vegas then I recommend it.

I feel I should be working on my character profile but I can't be bothered. I just want to move on t my next character because he is far more interesting. I may do some blogs on them if I run out of steam. Feedback would be great! There, see, motivation for other blogs! I wonder how many people actually read random blogs? I don't think I'd have the energy. God, I sound lazy don't I!?

Anyway, I'm gonna go have a look through my pathetic collection of DVD's. I'm leaning towards the Clerks Animated Series. 'Why are we walking like his?' Ha, classic. Oo, I'm gonna do a quote per blog too cos I have a fascination with quotes. That's todays...what? They don't have to be ground-breaking quotes!
